Painting, Drawing & Printmaking http://chesterartisans.ca/ 2021-06-14T21:05:08-04:00 Al Chaddock Al Chaddock http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/66-al-chaddock Born Halifax 1948 - Nova Scotia roots go back to 1751, mainly English and French. Mostly self taught, ; attended public and private schools (Halifax Grammar ), NASCAD and Dalhousie.I have been a professional artist for more than 40 years. I have received many honours; and my work is included in most significant collections both public and private, national and provincial. I have been a pioneer in many ways to do with fine art, culture, education and the environment...a constant scholar...also a journalist, a performing singer /song writer, story teller,a lecturer and consultant. "I believe all is one and one is all there is...so you and I are eternal.. so we should slow down and take the time to do things right...because wrong can last forever too . I paint for universal humanity and the way to do this is to look into your own heart and soul and the grains of sand at your feet."In honour of my life's work I have received the "Order of Halifax",and served for years on boards of arts groups, environment groups and at the UN. It's hard to describe your self when you accept that there is only one self .. and it is essentially unknowable... so I just celebrate it in my art as best I can. Enjoy !. 2021-06-14T21:05:08-04:00 Al Chaddock Guest author http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/122-al-chaddock Life long professional
Nova Scotian born and educated ;widely known 2021-06-13T13:02:58-04:00 Al Chaddock Guest author http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/132-al-chaddock-1 born 1948 hailfax, educated Halifax Grammar School. I am self taught. I have been painting for many years mainly for my own personal enjoyment. I have never taken an art course or hold an art degree at any college level. I have a great love for art and I believe to create art builds my confidence to achieve.

I became a member of the Lunenburg Art Gallery in 2011, one of my proud moments. Now I am on a journey into unlimited creativity, meeting other artists along the way. Taking every opportunity to promote my work and introduce myself. 2013-09-11T13:28:02-04:00 Annette Sawers Annette Sawers http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/83-annette-sawers My name is Annette Sawers, and I am a full time artist and teacher. I was born in the UK, and moved to Canada in the 1980’s. In fact, I have lived longer in Canada than the UK, though my accent has remained, I am told very British. My main medium is acrylics and my subjects are what grab’s me at the time. My education I received from Nevada and it is in art, art history and English Literature. I returned to painting and drawing after a long break and now have the incredible fortune of having my own studio which is located on Heckman’s island, (you can drive onto the island) Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The studio is where I work and teach students. Art enriches the soul and gives confidence and joy to all ages. There is no such thing as someone that cannot draw or paint, once the confidence is built there is another artist born.

My studio name is “Secret Red Door Studio”, www.secretreddoorstudio.com and has over 1,000 sq.ft. Create and enjoy in. It is located on over 3 acres of ocean front property. In the summer students can enjoy plein aire painting, setting up their easels in several locations on the property in which to get inspiration. Lessons are given in acrylic, oil, pencil and encaustic. I teach both adult and children, mom/daughter, father/son, or family teaching. The emphasis is on enjoyment, fun and the creative process. Cost of teaching for 2 people, 2 hour lesson, all material included $50. Flexible on time and dates.

Lots of room inside the studio, as well as outside, “Secret Red Door Studio”, gives space to create and enjoy. Music plays in the background in the studio or in the summer, bird song can be enjoyed as nature’s orchestra plays on.
Sam is an Airedale, and he frequents both the house and the studio. He enjoys people coming to visit and often amuses everyone in the studio with his loud snoring. He enjoys being drawn and has been a frequent subject of mine. 2013-09-11T13:30:07-04:00 Audrey Nicoll Audrey Nicoll http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/85-audrey-nicoll Audrey Nicoll was born in Falkirk, Scotland, grew up in Vancouver, BC, and now lives and works in Chester Basin, NS.She is a visual artist, art educator and writer. My paintings and drawing can best be described as abstact landscapes, or more recently, total abstraction. I work in both oils and acrylics, and sometimes a combination of both.

This year will mark my fourth and last year as the Visual Arts Representative for South Shore Nova Scotia. It has been a pleasure to work with VANS and I would encourage any artist who hasn't already, to become a member.

Over the years, I have been requested to do a number of workshops from day lnog to week long intensive. I enjoy teaching almost as much as painting and hope to be able to continue doing both for a long time to come. 2013-09-11T08:00:58-04:00 Barbara O'Neil Trilogy Gallery http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/75-barbara-o-neil Barb O'Neil grew up in Halifax, but was always drawn to rural Nova Scotia. After finishing university, she has lived in several rural areas and has now settled with her family in New Ross. She has pursued various artistic mediums. Barb trained as a florist in Holland, and had a successful flower business for 10 years until she changed paths and focused on her painting. She is mostly self taught, but takes courses at NSCAD regularly to expand her painting techniques. Her work is as varied as her interests, but she most often prefers painting abstracted landscapes inspired by the beautiful scenery around her home and along the south shore. In 2011 she opened Trilogy Gallery in Mahone Bay in order to have an area to show both her work and those of other local artists. 2013-09-11T13:11:48-04:00 Barret, Edward Carol http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/115-barret-edward Edward was born in London, England and emigrated to Canada in 1968. Gwen Dueck Gwen Dueck http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/125-d-gwen-dueck I worked in the financial world in Toronto and New York city and in 1995, moved to Nova Scotia. I picked up a paint brush in 2004 and started showing first in our Gallery (at the Warp & Woof) and then in various other galleries and group shows.
I paint in acrylic on canvas, primarily abstract expressionism. I also paint landscapes and figurative subjects.
Abstract art is often not readily understood. It does not have identifiable subjects, but rather shapes and colour are its defining elements. These elements are the way power, rhythm, grace, and above all, energy are brought o the work and expressed in the work.
Upon openly viewing an abstract piece (ie., without looking for specific subjects or symbols), a viewer will discover emotion, perhaps memories, or see a story or narrative. It is a worthwhile challenge and will be a wonderful discovery.
I believe art is important. It enriches, explains, expresses and enlivens artists and art appreciators
2016-09-12T10:24:41-04:00 Dawn Harwood-Jones Dawn Harwood-Jones http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/59-dawn-harwood-jones 2013-09-11T10:37:40-04:00 Diana (Dolly) Hancock Diana (Dolly) Hancock http://chesterartisans.ca/directory/54-diana-dolly-hancock Born in UK 1963. In addition to being an artist he was a teacher, lecturer, writer and world traveler. He has been described as an "academic artist" because of his interest in painting all subjects, landscape, seascape, marine, history and figurative. His art often tells stories of how man's relationship was to rivers and oceans, forests and mountains. He called his style "objective realism". Donald went to great lengths to represent the infinite varieties of the textures he saw in earth, sky and water. Like many painters his images are combinations of imagination and experience. Many of his paintings are also moments of people and history that take the viewer back in time. He also enjoyed doing portraits. He tested every painting he finished by asking himself if the subject was believable and if he could pass into the painting without effort.
Donald distinguished himself over the years with numerous donations of his art toward conservation fund-raising efforts.

*In 1996 Donald Curley was included in "Who's, Who in International Art". A stamp was printed in Switzerland that year as a tribute to him in honor of this achievement. The stamp features the painting "Sunday Morning."

*Donald's paintings are collected in Canada, United States, Mexico, Hawaii, Australia, India, Italy, France, Spain and England. They are in museums, corporations and private collections.

*His art has been shown in the last few years at Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, Wisconsin, - Algonquin Museum, Ontario, - Carnegie Museum, Pennsylvania, - Witte Museum, Texas, - Neville Public Museum, Wisconsin, - Virginia Museum of Natural History, Virginia, - Sangre De Chisto Arts Center, Colorado, - Walt Disney's Animal Kingdom, Florida, - The Delaware Museum of Natural History, Delaware, - The Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum, New York, - and The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia.

*Donald designed ten coins for The Royal Canadian Mint, which included a gold portrait coin of Alexander Graham Bell.

*His works can be found in books, magazines, prints and posters. North American publishers including Mill Pond Press have produced numerous prints of his art.

*He has been included in Who's Who in American Art", Who's Who in International Art", "Magazin'Art Biennial Guide of Canadian Art", "Outstanding People of The 20th Century", Cambridge and Fellowship I.B.A., Cambridge, England.

*In the year 2002 the International Artist Magazine, Issue 24, April/May, listed Donald as one of the Master Painters of the World. In the next International Artist Magazine, Issue 25, June/July he was selected as the Grand Prize Award Winner and Finalist – the first artist to be doubly honored in one competition.
