Gerald Stevens was born on Big Tancook. He moved to Chester with his family and at the age of 18 made his first model and had his uncle build the 28 foot sloop. Over the years he built many fine boats, schooners, ketches, and mototboats 35 to 44 feet. Boats were designed and built for Chester, Canada, USA, England and Southern waters. The "Roshell" was designed for the Marblehead Race and is the only sloop that ever won the event. He received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal.
